چکیده
Recently in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, there has been increased interest in protocols for wireless networks that rely on significant interactions between various layers (Cross Layer Design) of the network stack. In this paper we study on various Cross Layer Design Approaches and their significance in MANET with an insight into the problems of Cross Layer design mode. Furthermore we propose a protocol Architecture which uses a Cross Layer Design Approach for MANET using Directional Antennas.

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

in this paper, a quality of service (QoS) multicast routing protocol in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) by using directional antennas has been presented. Many important applications, such as audio/video conferencing, require the quality of service guarantee. Directional antenna technology provides the capability for considerable increase in spatial reuse, which increases the efficiency of commu...
متن کاملA MAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks using directional antennas
We propose a medium access control (MAC) protocol for an ad hoc network of mobile wireless terminals that are equipped with multiple directional antennas. Use of directional antennas in ad hoc networks can largely reduce the radio interference, thereby improving the packet throughput. However, the main problem of using directional antennas in such networks is due to the dynamic nature of the ne...

© 2012 ETRI Journal, Volume 34, Number 1, February 2012 The directional medium access control (MAC) protocol improves the throughput of mobile ad hoc networks but has a deafness problem and requires location information for neighboring nodes. In the dual-channel directional MAC protocol [12], the use of omnidirectional packets does not require the exact location of destination node. In this let...

This paper addresses the issue of deafness problem in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) using directional antennas. Directional antennas are beneficial for wireless ad hoc networks consisting of a collection of wireless hosts. A suitable Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol must be designed to best utilize directional antennas. Deafness is caused when two nodes are in ongoing transmission and a t...
